Since 1974, Richard Scofield Historic Lighting has been the pre-eminent creator of the finest American period lighting available.
Richard Scofield’s passion for metalwork and lighting design developed after a childhood apprenticeship building boats with his father. Richard went on to become an expert in lighting design spanning more than two centuries, and he brought that expertise to each fixture he produced, meticulously verifying authenticity in every detail with research in private and museum collections, auctions, antique catalogs and magazines.
From his workshop in the iconic green flatiron building on the Pattaconk Brook in Chester, Connecticut, Richard began to build handmade period light fixtures that were so accurately reproduced they were, and are today, indistinguishable from the original antiques. Richard’s acclaimed custom work led to exquisite design innovations that are the backbone of today’s collection.
Following Richard’s death in 1993, his longtime associate Debbie Gilbert continued the fine tradition of lighting design for which Scofield is renowned. In 2006, Jon and Doreen Joslow acquired the business after collecting Scofield chandeliers and lanterns for 25 years.
Today, Scofield Lighting is located in the Village of Ivoryton, in Essex, Connecticut. Along with Debbie, Jon and Doreen have grown the business to meet rapidly expanding demand for Scofield’s classic designs and the unique custom innovations that are coveted by discerning designers, architects, builders and homeowners.
Our passion for exquisite execution in craftsmanship continues to combine unusual beauty with solid, lasting quality.
